Email Marketing Digital ReputationIt might not be pretty!  The digital reputation of your business is established by the methods - good or bad - being used in your online initiatives. Your reputation as an email marketer, therefore, should be carefully monitored to avoid negatively impacting your digital reputation every time you click "Send".

Advances in SPAM filtering have moved beyond basic keyword analysis and now use more sophisticated methods such as electronic fingerprinting and sender reputation modeling to determine email deliverability. How closely do you monitor your digital reputation?

What makes up your digital reputation?

Guilt by association
Does your email service provider (ESP) share IP addresses with less respectable clients than you? If so, your reputation can suffer.

Appearing on a blacklist report
If your domain or IP address is blacklisted your message may be blocked by most major ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and corporate gateway appliances.

Reputation leakage
Who else is sending email from or on behalf of your company? Any message - regardless of IP address - which includes identifiable attributes of your organization will factor into your digital reputation.

List hygiene
Repeatedly sending to a list containing a large number of undeliverable addresses (hard bounces) will adversely affect your reputation. Be sure to monitor and remove them after each send.

Rented or 3rd party lists
Sending messages to recipients who have not opted in to receive email from your organization will harm your digital reputation.

SPAM complaints
Even recipients who at one time opted-in may later register you as spam or simply use that feature instead of unsubscribing.

Non-Compliance with CAN-SPAM
Not following these rules can result in a poor reputation both online and off, and may lead to significant fines or even jail.
